SMART (Surveillance,
Monitoring & Alerting in Real Time) security systems build on the background experience gained
working with real time, military, C4i systems. SMART takes
an holistic approach to security, recognising that it is not just an
intruder that can spoil the day but also, for example, a fire, a power failure, or an excessive
temperature (low or high). In addition, SMART aims to deter an
intruder from even entering the premises, rather than simply
alerting the owner after the event. SMART surveillance and
monitoring extends readily into
SMART Building using open software
to integrate sensors, systems and security.

Traditional security has
a number of inherent weaknesses including the challenge given to a
security guard to monitor a bank of screens looking for something
out of the ordinary. SMART only brings up a camera view when there
is an alert, assuring the full attention of the guard to the
situation at hand. Traditional systems require the customer to
be the integrator. Intaero has selected and integrated a suite
of technologies to bring a solution rather than a product and make

SMART adds additional
functionality through multi-sensor integration and decision support.
For example, access control to a sensitive area can be monitored by
integrating number plate recognition and RFID. In addition for
very secure areas a picture of the car and driver can be sent to a
monitoring station for final confirmation that the car and driver
are recognised and permitted entry. A log is maintained along
with the photo record for future reference. SMART is an ideal
solution for large areas requiring integrated security in depth such
as airports, sea ports and large, public buildings. |

Proactive Security
Most security
systems alert the security company or owner after the
premises have been entered, giving the intruder adequate
time to take what he came for and leave before anyone
arrives. By contrast SMART aims to deter the
intruder from entering the premises
in the first place. SMART uses the capabilities of
intelligent motion detection to provide selective
alerting when an intruder approaches
a secure area, long before he actually attempts to gain
forced entry. As soon as he is picked up by the
motion detection,
an audio warning is given automatically and the security
team alerted. They can then immediately see the
camera view and, using Voice over IP, can further (and
specifically) warn the intruder to leave the premises as
he has been photographed and security is on the way. SMART is web enabled, so that
the owner of the house or industrial premises can access
the cameras to view the property and to change settings
and remotely arm or disarm the cameras. |

Integrated Systems for
Remote Sites and Large Sites
SMART is an
excellent solution for use at remote sites as it
provides an integrated package of different technologies to
provide a very high level of security and system
monitoring. As well as providing perimeter
security, cameras can be placed inside a site to
monitor the status of equipment and back up the
information coming from the sensors. The demonstrated use of high bandwidth
IP - based wireless technologies enables sites to
communicate over long distances without the need for a
land line connection.

Large areas, such as housing
site, office parks and technology parks traditionally
rely on each tenant taking responsibility for his own
security.
With SMART an entire site can be monitored from a
central location while empowering the tenants to have
access to this information, on a secure, selective
scheme. For example a company on an industrial
site can access information on the delivery of goods
into the site, delivery to the factory, work in
progress, packing, shipping and goods leaving the site.
This information can be integrated into back office
applications such as project planning and accounting to
gain maximum business advantage from the integration of
multiple technologies. The SMART interface has
been designed with the user in mind and, for example, to
bring up the camera from a remote location is a simple
matter of point and click. |
